Made to be beautiful

Trendy’s new Portuguese furniture range is epitomised by new technology
and the innovative use of contemporary fabrication techniques.

A new name has been added to Trendy’s designer range of contemporary furniture: Tema Home. This Portuguese company produces beautiful, streamlined furniture with an emphasis on new technology and the innovative use of contemporary fabrication techniques.

Perhaps the most celebrated element of traditional Portuguese design is the use of pattern. From the painted blue and white tiles used in historic interiors to the black and white mosaic pavements, pattern is central to Portuguese decorative arts.

Current trends call for decorative elements in interiors, so it comes as no surprise that Tema Home has produced a range of beautiful, confidently executed pieces of decorative contemporary furniture.

The Flora coffee table, for example, consists of two sleek, white, high gloss tables, with brushed metal legs. Designed by Flora Mendonça, the two tables sit side-by-side with a stylised dove grey leaf and flower pattern forming a visual link between the two.

Less overtly decorative, the Arrangeable Two Tone coffee table is also made up of two elements. It features a white table with either a walnut veneer table or a chocolate tinted oak veneer table. The design is practical, as one of the tables slides under the other for storage, however, even when they are placed on top of one another, the two contrasting colours are still visible.

The most unusual piece from Tema Home is the limited edition Scatola Armonica sideboard. To show how special designer, Miguel Vieira Baptista, thinks the product is, he has incorporated a signed certificate engraved in the inner side of one of the doors. His inspiration for the laser cut pattern in the doors of this elegant, low, white oak sideboard, came from musical instruments and folding paper cut techniques. The result is a piece that exemplifies the current contemporary decorative trend, designed and made with careful consideration.

These and other products from innovative manufacturer, Tema Home, have been included in the Trendy Products designer range. The collection includes fabulous beds and bedroom furniture as well as storage options including chests of drawers, sideboards and the ingenious Step shelf/ book case units.
